This project kicked off in Spring 2025, when Eleonora Diamanti and Helton Levy proposed to study the regenerative potential of graffiti and street art for riverbanks in three big European capitals: Rome, Lisbon, and London.
While belonging to different geographies, histories, and socioeconomic realities, these riverbanks could inform each other in terms of potential for visitors and the creation of a visual riverscape that gives visitors different kinds of experience.
The first paper is ongoing, but preliminary results were presented during the “The Social Lives of Rome’s Rivers” conference, convened by Isabella Clough Marinaro and Will Hayes at John Cabot University, in June 2025, in Rome.
